After a ride through Grimes Canyon, the road levels out through the lush farmland north of the Santa Susana Mountains. You approach the village of Fillmore for a welcome stop to stretch your legs –rest the throttle hand and perhaps have a cold beverage or lunch.

Just before entering the town, you cross a very long, straight bridge over a long stretch of rough, stony landscape with sparse scrub. The Santa Clara River is nearly always dry -- and the dry river bed is known as a "wash" in the west.
